Loving football, celebrating diversity

Loving football, celebrating diversity

Britain’s first black women’s footballer

Emma Clarke was born in Liverpool in 1876. In 1895 she played for British Ladies in front of 10,000 people in London.

She also played for another famous women’s team, Mrs Graham’s XI.

She earned around a shilling a week playing football. This was a decent wage for for a working class family at the time.
